Reduce fuel consumption during navigation. Is it really possible? And without adjusting your preferences and customs? If possible. We share with you four simple and effective practices that will not prevent you from enjoying the sea at all, and how you want!
A prepared ship
We will never get tired of talking about your boat's pre-season preparation. We discuss it frequently, either to avoid surprises during your vacation or to navigate calmly.
An adequate preparation in your boat, with a well-groomed engine, will allow you to save a few liters of fuel. One more reason to prepare it!
A clean ship
The hull of a ship, although we do not necessarily see it, is a very important element to take into account when calculating its fuel consumption. The more crowded you are with crustaceans and the like, the more it will slow down your journey and therefore consume more fuel. That is why we recommend every year to perform a good polishing of the hull. If in high season you do not go out often enough, which allows you to quickly remove the first dirt, do not hesitate to jump into the water (in summer of course!) with a sponge!
A balanced ship
A balanced boat, what does that mean? First, that the weight in the boat is correct and that it does not exceed that recommended by the supplier. Then, once at sea, take care to distribute the weight evenly throughout the boat.
And finally, a boat with good performance!
Ah, the good performance! Knowing the optimal performance of your boat is ideal for adjusting its fuel consumption. If the on-board electronic tool doesn't give you the information, now is the time to take a piece of paper and style and write down speed and consumption at different revs. Once the consumption of liters per mile traveled is obtained, the lowest figure corresponds to the best speed of your boat. To save fuel!
With current prices, it's a good time to review these 4 practices and make sure you have adequate gas mileage while still enjoying the sea. Good sailing everyone!
