Winter is the right time to pamper your boat with some maintenance, which will allow you, among other things, to have it available as soon as the spring days arrive and its pleasant weather conditions. In addition, in winter there are many more professionals available than at other times of the year. When spring arrives, all boat owners want to give them a touch-up so that they look their best in summer, which means that in spring many professionals in the nautical sector are saturated. What's more, many of these professionals tend to charge lower rates during the winter.
The hours of navigation, the sea water, the sun ... The engine is continuously exposed to highly abrasive elements that make it difficult to function properly. In addition, it is one of the most sensitive parts of the boat. A poorly maintained engine can cause excessive consumption, leaks, unpleasant odors ... Until the day the situation becomes complicated and unfortunately, it stops working. Throughout the season it is advisable to take care of the engine after each boat trip with some basic gestures. It is also highly recommended to have it checked annually. A good engine overhaul includes several things: checking the spark plugs, the fuel filter, the water pump turbine, checking the propeller and shaft greasing, etc. Depending on whether the motor is outboard or inboard, the steps will be different. In both cases, the final step is of course to verify that the engine operates and works correctly and before each start of the season it is also recommended to check the hoses, the gas connections and the condition of the screws and bolts.
The annual tank check serves to protect the fuel tank, clean the fresh water system and clean the dirty water.
For the fuel tank, it is advisable to add a suitable additive before refueling to keep the fuel in good condition and prevent condensation from forming. As for the fresh water circuit, the tank must be completely emptied, a cleaning product poured in (bleach is inexpensive but leaves an unpleasant taste), then refills the tank and finally opens the taps for a minute before refilling. Regarding dirty waters, It is necessary to empty the tank in accordance with the laws, pour a cleaning product into it and fill it so that the cleaner can act on the entire surface of the tank.

The winter season is the ideal time to redo the varnish on your boat, this work takes time and hours of work, and as we mentioned earlier, in winter there will be many more professionals available than at other times of the year. In addition, the low temperatures in winter allow the varnish to be polished: as it dries less quickly, it is possible to detect small errors.
